Information on SCS School Closings and Delays

Each school day is an important learning opportunity. Please plan for your child(ren) to attend school on time, prepared for learning, each scheduled day of the school year.

Two Hour Delay

• Information about Springfield City Schools will be released to area radio and television stations early, prior to 5:30 a.m., and should be on the air soon thereafter.
• Students may enter the buildings two hours after the normal starting times.
• Breakfast will not be served in schools when a delay is called.
• Morning ECSE classes are canceled.
• Morning SACC will be open at its regular time (6:00 a.m.) at Kenton Elementary, 731 East Home Road; Lagonda Elementary, 800 E. McCreight Ave. and Snowhill Elementary, 531 West Harding Road.
• Each building has a plan for conducting the remaining instructional time and lunch period.

Closings

• 7:30 a.m. is the latest any changes are made on delays and closings, and the media then is notified regarding Springfield City Schools.
• Scheduled school events may continue pending the improvement of weather, temperature or street conditions and media notification.
• Should schools be closed after a called delay, the SACC Program will also close. SACC staff will call parents of children in attendance to notify them of the closing. Effective January 1, 2006 the child care program will be closed when schools are closed for inclement weather.

Parents and Student Safety

• A major concern in calling delays or closings is for students who are left alone during delays or school closings. All parents should have a plan in place to ensure the proper supervision and care of their children in these situations.

Calamity Days

• Ohio school districts may close five (5) days due to weather or other calamities. If SCS closes more than five days, a make-up day must be added to the school year for each day over five. This year the additional days, as approved by the Board of Education on the school calendar for 2000-2010, would be June 4, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
